Before Move In
Fall arrival times
In an effort to minimize traffic, parking and check-in congestion, move-in arrival times are required on Friday, August 11 through Sunday, August 13.
More information about scheduling an arrival time will be available in June.
Community Guide
The Community Guide is a very important document—you actually agreed to abide by the policies found in the Community Guide when you executed your online housing contract. In it, you’ll find guidance on decoration and visitation, as well as information about the staff and amenities available to you as a resident. Similar to the UGA Code of Conduct, you should be familiar with the policies and guidelines set forth in the guide. Take a look before you arrive on campus to ensure you know what’s expected of you as a resident.
Bulldogs Friends+Family Magazine
Bulldogs Friends+Family magazine is intended to provide students, friends, and family information and resources related to move in and living on campus.
360-degree video tours
In lieu of in-person tours, our 360-degree video tours on YouTube allow you to be immersed in the environment of each residence hall.
Mail and packages
Students may start receiving mail and package the day of their check in. Please do not plan to have anything arrive prior to your check-in date, as it may be returned to sender.
Mail is delivered by the United States Postal Service to the central mailboxes assigned in each area or hall. In University Village Housing and the Health Sciences Campus (HSC) mail is delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. Addresses are listed on the webpage for each building.
Insurance
University Housing recommends that students obtain some type of renter’s insurance whether that be a special policy or as a part of the parents’ homeowner policy. Generally, renter’s insurance can protect you from loss due to fire, storms, smoke, vandalism, burglary, etc. University Housing is not liable for any damage to personal property.
Building Access
Residents need a UGACard to access their residence hall and many other facilities and services throughout campus. Visit https://tate.uga.edu/ugacard/ for more information about obtaining your card. Once your card has been active for 24 hours, you should plan to choose a personal identification number (PIN). Your card and pin will give you access to your building.

During Move In
What you’ll need to move in
Consider bringing a small cart or dolly. Although carts are available in many buildings, there is a limited number of carts available for students to use. You might also consider bringing a small tool kit and a pen for filling out forms at check in.
Checking into a residence hall room
Each student must have their UGA OneCard or government-issued ID to check in. Students should know their student ID number and emergency contact information (preferably, this should be someone in the United States). Only the student can receive a room key; family members and roommates cannot check into a room and receive a key on behalf of a student.
Recycling
Recycling stations will be set up near dumpsters during move in to collect Styrofoam, plastic film and cardboard. For a comprehensive list of items residents can recycle, visit the Athens-Clarke County Recyclable Items page.
Parking maps
Parking maps will be added soon.

Frequently Asked Questions
Arrivals
What is an arrival time?
The arrival time is a 15-minute window in which you should arrive to your designated unloading zone. Once you have arrived you will have one hour to check in and unload your belongings. After one hour you will move your vehicle(s) to long term parking at which point you can finish unloading and/or go back and set up your room.
Do I need to schedule an arrival time?
If you plan to move in on August 11-13, you must schedule an arrival time.
Who does not need to schedule an arrival time?
Anyone not in the halls listed above or who is already in their fall space. Examples of somebody who would already be in their fall space would be a summer school resident in Oglethorpe House who is living in the same room for fall or a THRIVE student living in Russell who is in the same Russell room for fall.
I’m transitioning rooms; do need to schedule an arrival time?
Generally not, but if you are checking into your fall space on August 11, 12 or 13 then yes. Most transitions will happen before August 11 and, therefore, do not need an arrival time. Please contact your community office if you are unsure if you need to schedule an arrival time.
Sorority recruitment
Will I be able to move in on August 11 if I am participating in sorority recruitment?
Yes, we have designated arrival times on August 11 available for sorority recruitment participants. After students register for sorority recruitment, Greek Life will send University Housing a list of names once per week. Once we receive those names we will code those student to ensure they have access to an arrival time on August 11.
I am participating in sorority recruitment but I don’t see any arrival times on August 11, what should I do?
Usually this means you have not registered for sorority recruitment with Greek Life or University Housing has not received your name from Greek Life. If you believe you have registered but you are still not seeing arrival times on August 11 please contact the Greek Life Office.
Unloading zones
How long can I park in my unloading zone?
One hour.
I’m not sure if 1 hour is enough, how can I make the most out of my time in the unloading zone?
After checking in, move all of your belongings to your room and move your vehicle to long-term parking. Then you can return to your room to unpack, setup, loft your bed, etc. This allows students with later arrival times an opportunity to unload in the 1-hour unloading zones, as well.
Can I have more than one car in the unloading zone?
Residents are encouraged to bring only bring one vehicle to the unloading zone. If you do need more than one vehicle that is allowed. Any vehicles that do not have items to unload should proceed directly to long-term parking.
When will I receive unloading zone and long-term parking information?
This information will be finalized and shared approximately two weeks before move in. Students will receive a final email around this time with all information about their move in.
