Community Councils
The primary governing bodies in our halls are community councils composed of elected officers and representatives of residents within that hall. Taking part in residence hall government is an excellent way to develop leadership skills and to become involved in the community. Each group’s purpose is the same: to implement programs and activities that respond to the needs and requests of residents on issues that affect their living environments.
Community Councils operate on a budget derived from the programming fee charged in conjunction with the housing fee, which pays for events, purchases and programs of their choice. These student boards also provide input on housing policies and fees. Programming fees are $20 per semester in the residence halls and $1 per month in University Village and the Health Sciences Campus.
Community Standards Board
The Community Standards Board is the peer-level conduct hearing body for University Housing and is responsible for hearing cases involving alleged housing policy violations from each of the seven residential living communities. The goal of the Community Standards Board is to educate residents about University Housing policies and encourage residents to be accountable for their actions while recognizing how the decisions that they make may impact their residence hall communities.
Experiential Learning
At UGA, experiential learning is designed to deliver impact—for our communities and, above all, for our students. Experiential learning can elevate a student’s trajectory, enhance competencies and enable opportunities, now and for years to come—that’s why it’s a required part of every UGA degree.
University Housing offers six unique experiential learning opportunities based on the core competencies of leadership and creativity:
EL Leadership: C.L.A.S.S. Advocate (CA)

As a live-in member of the residence hall student staff, the C.L.A.S.S. (Continuing the Legacy of African American Student Success) Advocate (CA) aids in the retention and academic success of African American students who are residents in University Housing. CAs work with residents who are interested in multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion and social justice.
EL Leadership: Community Standards Board

The Community Standards Board (CSB) is the peer Community Standards Board for University Housing and is responsible for hearing cases involving alleged housing policy violations from each of the seven residential living communities. EL Leadership: EcoReps

EcoReps are peer advocates and educators who engage their community through active and passive programming. The EcoReps also assist the rest of the community council executive board and general body in efforts to increase sustainability within their buildings. EcoReps have the opportunity to participate in an overnight camping retreat and attend the Southeastern EcoRep conference during spring semester.
EL Leadership: New Resident Assistant Training Seminar

Resident assistants (RAs) lead discussion groups, participate in a community development activity, complete journals and personal assessments and learn about campus resources as training to develop productive on campus residential floor communities. This experience assists students in developing expertise and comfort with their role as a program developer and student leader.

The Resident assistant (RA) lives and works with a group of 30 to 75 students in one of nine residential communities at UGA. RAs support, communicate, enforce and abide by all University of Georgia and University Housing policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as encourage the principles of individual responsibility and respect for others’ development through role modeling, challenging and education.
EL Creative: Video Producer

This student position is responsible for filming, producing and editing video content for publication on University Housing’s website and social media networks. The students in this position apply their academic knowledge, practical skills and creativity to a real-world position working for University Housing’s marketing department.
EL Creative: Housing Social Media Ambassador
Meets EL requirement for:

Housing social media ambassadors’ primary role is to assist University Housing in capturing and replicating the unique residential experience felt throughout each residential community into online media by generating content for University Housing’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest accounts in the form of photos, video content, graphics and text.
NRHH
The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is a component of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Incorporated (NACURH). NRHH is a leadership-based honorary comprised of exemplary residential students who value recognition and service. NRHH offers a multitude of volunteering and personal development programs for its members throughout campus and the surrounding community.

RHA
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is the second-largest student organization on campus. RHA serves and advocates for residents on campus by creating community and promoting a safe, fun and inclusive environment for residents.
